In my scramble to get some sort of income happening and some decent amount of teaching experience I was about to rock up to the local Catholic school when the thought occurred to me that I don't even know what the accreditation requirements are for the Catholic system.
One quick call to the Catholic Education Office in Melbourne put me in touch with a helpful man who confirmed that teachers do, in fact, need accreditation. However, you have 5 years to get accredited! And the school sponsors this training (I assume this means paying for it)!
Not only that, as a CRT you don't even need to do it (as long as you don't teach Religious Instruction), however, not having the accreditation means you will probably lose out to CRTs who do have the accreditation.
Good to know.
The website also has a vacancy section! Now I know that I can approach local Catholic schools without looking like an ignoramus.
